Dan Gruppo, President and CEO

CoNextions Medical, headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT, has developed and commercialized implantable musculoskeletal devices, the CoNextions TR® Tendon Repair System and the Coronet™ Soft Tissue Fixation System, to enable more efficient and durable tendon-to-tendon and tendon-to-bone attachment, respectively. CoNextions TR, the company’s lead product is focused on trauma procedures requiring the surgical repair of lacerated or ruptured flexor and extensor tendons in the hand and wrist, as well as foot and ankle, a market that is estimated to be over 500,000 procedures a year in the U.S. alone.

The revolutionary device offers significant improvements over suture-based repair – the standard of care for hundreds of years and the only available repair modality in use today. In addition to enabling faster repairs (three times faster), the incremental strength and lower profile offered by the CoNextions TR can reduce ruptures and potentially permit earlier active motion and physical therapy thus mitigating the formation of excess scar tissue and adhesions which regularly compromise long-term mobility and patient satisfaction. Complications related to rupture, adhesions and scar tissue frequently need to be addressed with a subsequent surgical procedure. Furthermore, the TR’s increased tensile strength results in a significant reduction in post-operative failures, including gapping at the repair site and ruptures as demonstrated in a recent prospective clinical trial.
