Michael Carroll has 25 years of experience in the medical device industry. He has been involved in applied research and product development relating to hip and knee replacement, biologics, spine, as well as total ankle replacement. His specific areas of interest are knee biomechanics, kinematics and alignment as well and biomaterials research of reticulated metal foams for implants and implant coatings and resorbable bone graft substitutes. He has co-authored publications related to biomaterials for total joint replacement and bone repair, and biomechanics research. He has patents relating to hip implant bearings, composite bone graft substitutes, and patient specific alignment guides for use in knee replacement surgery. He has worked for Dow Corning Wright, Wright Medical Technology, and was owner/principal engineer of Mechanical Testing & Analysis. He is currently VP of Research & Development at MicroPort Orthopedics, Inc. located in Arlington, TN.
